Many senior homes and care facilities lack brightness and energy causing increased stress, depression and anxiety amongst its residents. According to behavioral research conducted at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner far beyond what is normally believed. The study showed flowers having a long-term positive effect on moods. Specifically, study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers, and demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction.

The goal of this program is to create flower pot kits to brighten nursing home rooms and provide a tangible benefit to people’s moods as they watch their elegant flowers bloom.

Each flower pot kit includes:

  • Flower pot – make your own design
  • Seeds Packet
  • Soil Packet
  • Plant Markers
  • … and more!

Participants not only pack the kits with the necessary materials, they also decorate the flower pots and gift boxes with colorful flower/gardening themed designs and messages along with creating a care card with instruction on how to take care of the flower.

Holiday Cheer Care Kit (Download PDF)

During the holiday season, families gather together in their homes to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. They create warm memories while decorating every inch of their house with creative and festive decorations. Unfortunately many elderly people who live in nursing homes are not able to share in these exciting and memorable times with their loved ones, but instead celebrate alone. A study by Kansas State University’s Center on Aging showed that the depression rate among institutionalized elders is around 50 percent. The study also showcased the holiday season as a trigger for increased symptoms of depression, likely because it is a time of observing long-standing traditions and getting together with family and loved ones.

The goal of this program is to assemble Holiday Cheer Care Kits for nursing home residents including colorful and decorative ornaments to be hung within a nursing home helping residents feel the warmth and love of the holiday season.

In addition to the creating ornaments, participants decorate and pack a gift box with holiday-themed messages and gifts including a blanket, a personalized card and more!

*Seasonal and holiday specific items are available upon request!

Hospital rooms can be an unpleasant experience for a young child. Being in an uncomfortable environment, rather than the comfort of their own room, makes it difficult for them to easily adapt. Designing pillowcases with inspirational messages and pictures will bring smiles to children’s faces and encouragement to overcome the challenges ahead.

The goal of this program is to decorate pillowcases providing comfort for children while brightening their hospital rooms.

In addition to the pillowcases, attendees will also create dreamcatchers to protect the children from nightmares caused during these unpleasant times. The dream catchers symbolize hope and healing, helping the children rest knowing that everything will be fine.

Beads to Beat Cancer (Download PDF)

Cancer cuts through boundaries of gender, race, nationality, and income. More than 1.2 million Americans develop cancer each year, which translates to a cancer diagnosis every 30 seconds. “Beads to Beat Cancer” works to empower people touched by cancer by supporting cancer care facilities nationwide.

The goal of this program is to assemble bracelets to donate to local cancer treatment facilities for distribution to patients, each with a special handwritten message of support.

Each attendee receives a bracelet kit containing beads, silver bead spacers, a bracelet cord, a jewelry box and a note card. While preparing the bracelets and the notes to go with them, attendees may reference the provided “Colors of Cancer” guide. Each type of cancer has a color associated with it (pink is the color for breast cancer, etc.). While preparing the bracelets, participants may discuss what color of cancer speaks most to them, and why.

The Best Medicine (Download PDF)

A child’s first visit to a hospital can be an overwhelming experience. New faces and new surroundings are never easy for young children, especially when faced with the idea that their short-term stay can potentially become an extended one. Along with the professional care they receive at hospitals and medical centers, it’s also important to support these children in an emotional capacity by providing them with care and gifts that allow them to retain a firm grasp on what it means to be a child, despite the challenges they are facing. To a child, having a stuffed animal is like having a friend or family member you can always rely on, talk to, love, and be loved unconditionally, no matter what!

The goal of this program is to prepare stuffed animals to donate to children enduring hospital stays.

Participants not only assemble stuffed animals, they also prepare a “message of hope and encouragement” on a t-shirt for the stuffed animal. The end result is a meaningful and memorable donation of heartwarming gifts for children who can use some serious cheering up and a reminder of the comforts of home!
