As we kick off 2025, we’ve been thinking about how corporate social responsibility (CSR) team activities have evolved over the years—and what we hope to see in the future. At Impact 4 Good, we’ve noticed an exciting shift in the way companies are approaching give back initiatives. The trend isn’t just about creating memorable, one-time events (although those are still impactful!). Instead, we’re seeing organizations take their CSR efforts to the next level by fostering long-term partnerships with nonprofits and creating deeper, ongoing engagement with the philanthropic causes they support.

Here’s how this evolution is shaping up—and how we envision it flourishing in 2025:

From One-Time Giving to Ongoing Partnerships

Many CSR events have centered around singular acts of giving—like packing food kits, assembling school supplies, or creating care packages. While these initiatives are incredibly valuable, companies are now realizing the potential to extend their impact by forming lasting relationships with nonprofit organizations.

This might mean partnering with a nonprofit for several years, collaborating on projects that align with shared values, and investing in the nonprofit’s mission in meaningful ways. For example, a company might host an annual teambuilding event to support a specific cause but also commit to volunteering, funding, or promoting that nonprofit throughout the year. ‘

One shining example of such a partnership is Philadelphia Insurance Companies. For their ongoing new hire training events, they partner with us to organize teambuilding activities that focus on giving back to the Ronald McDonald House in their local area. This collaboration is more than just a one-time act of goodwill—it’s a sustained effort to make an impact. Each new hire group participates in these events, strengthening their team bonds while directly supporting families in need. By embedding this give-back element into their training program, Philadelphia Insurance Companies demonstrates how CSR can be woven into the fabric of a company’s operations.

Encouraging Year-Round Volunteering

Another exciting trend we’re seeing is the promotion of employee volunteering outside of company events. By championing causes that resonate with employees, companies can inspire their teams to take action on their own time—whether it’s mentoring youth, organizing neighborhood clean-ups, or donating professional expertise to a nonprofit in need.

Companies are providing the tools and incentives to make this possible, such as:

  • Volunteer time off (VTO) policies
  • Employee resource groups focused on specific causes
  • Recognition programs for employees who go above and beyond in their volunteer efforts

This sustained engagement helps employees feel more connected to their communities and strengthens the company’s overall commitment to giving back.

At our events, have the beneficiary present to share about their mission and encourage the event as a jumping off point for more action.  We’re also incorporating a chance for employees to link right to their volunteer platform to educate the group on the platform and how to continue to volunteer with the cause beyond the event.

Impact Investing

One of the most forward-thinking trends we’re excited to see grow is the integration of impact investing into CSR strategies. Impact investing involves putting financial resources into organizations, projects, or initiatives that generate measurable social or environmental benefits alongside a financial return.

For example, a company might fund a nonprofit’s sustainability project, help launch a specific social program, or invest in community infrastructure that aligns with its CSR mission. Impact investing goes beyond traditional donations by creating opportunities for long-term growth and systemic change, which benefits both the nonprofit and the community it serves.

This new avenue for making a meaningful impact also creates a deeper relationship with the nonprofit partner and their mission.

Advocating Cause Values Internally and Externally

To make a lasting impact, CSR initiatives need to go beyond team events and into the broader conversation. Companies are championing their values by sharing their cause messaging and values both internally and externally. Advocating across multiple communications channels, they’re using social media, newsletters, internal communications and leveraging employee resource groups, and public campaigns to raise awareness and amplify their nonprofit partner’s missions and cause work.

This approach extends the nonprofit’s cause message to reach a wider audience while giving employees a great sense of pride in the collective effort. It also reinforces the company’s dedication to making a difference, both internally and externally.

Beyond messaging, another aspect of this advocacy is leading by example within their partner ecosystems. Over the past year, we collaborated with Nutanix on give-back programs that invited their clients to also participate. This approach not only showcased their values but also amplified the overall impact, engaging their partner ecosystems to extend the reach of their philanthropic efforts.

Our Vision for 2025 CSR Team Events

In 2025, we hope to see more companies creating CSR events and programs that foster deeper connections, champion year-round engagement, and drive long-lasting change. We imagine a world where a CSR team event is only one component of a broader partnership that includes ongoing volunteerism, meaningful advocacy and impactful investment.

At Impact 4 Good, we’re ready to help companies make this vision a reality. Whether it’s designing teambuilding activities with lasting impact, connecting companies with nonprofit partners, or brainstorming innovative ways to give back, we’re excited to be part of the journey.

Here’s to making 2025 the year of sustained impact and purpose-driven partnerships!
