Description

Over 789 million people live in extreme energy poverty without access to safe and reliable lighting sources. These people often turn to unsafe, toxic, and polluting forms of energy that can have devastating short and long-term impacts on children, their families, and communities. Energy poverty kills more children than malaria and AIDS combined each year.

The goal of this event is to learn about extreme energy poverty and assemble sustainable solar lights for students.

Our facilitator leads the group through the importance of the cause before participants work together to build the lights, which are shipped to children worldwide through our nonprofit partner SolarBuddy, whose mission is to unite a global community committed to illuminating the futures of all children. A creative element is introduced when participants decorate bookmarks for the children to accompany their donation and write a letter of encouragement. This establishes a direct connection to the cause and organization your team is supporting.

This activity is customizable to meet your goals and objectives, as well as the logistics. We can implement the “Shine a Light” activity in the following ways:

  • Philanthropic Donation Only – The base of all our programs; participants will learn about the cause and beneficiary and then work on the solar buddy light assembly.
  • Trivia Quiz Show – Teams earn donation materials through an interactive trivia game with cause and customizable company-related content.

We also offer Shine a Light” Impact Kits for a “do it yourself” activity.
