Low-income students who may not be able to afford a home computer or have access to reliable WiFi are less likely to develop skills in STEM related activities. They rely on after-school programs to support their advancement and interest levels in STEM fields. A research study showed that over 70% of students in STEM after-school programs had increased interest in STEM careers and improvement in 21st-century skills. Unfortunately, underfunded schools tend not to have the equipment to start building a STEM-based curriculum that can inspire students to pursue STEM related education. The goal of this program is to prepare STEM challenge kits, filled with assorted building materials, which teach students in a hand-on matter so they may shape the future with creative and innovative solutions.

Impact 4 Good’s “STEMazing Challenge” program is a competitive and collaborative event where teams build life-size (48” x 40”) hand-held game board labyrinths, each constructed based on unique design criteria that plays an integral part in the latter stages of this multifaceted event. This program is a fast-paced, timed teambuilding activity with communication and collaboration being essential as teams carefully plan and execute their building strategy!

Upon completion of the activity, teams receive materials required to complete their STEM challenge kits along with “messages of encouragement”. They are also reminded of who the real winner is, the organization receiving these kits designed to inspire young students in their pursuit of new and exciting challenges. Depending on the timing, a beneficiary representative can attend the event and say a few words of thanks!
